A Market for the Community, Funded by the Community!
We are currently looking for Investors and Crowd Sourcing!
Building this market from nothing is going to take a bit of money! So we are asking for the community’s help with the additional funding we were not able to receive from grants. For every amount donated, we are offering you something in return! Purchase a flower subscription that you can use for yourself or send to someone you love.
What are we spending this money on?
We are currently in negotiations with the owners of the building that will house our cute little flower market. The space is in downtown Port Angeles and is the perfect central location for operations. Our main goal for funding is to secure employees, rent, a walk-in cooler, and a van. Below is a list of the items we need. We absolutely are not expecting or even asking that all of these costs get covered, we just believe in being transparent about what we are spending money on and the general makeup of the market. If our community chooses to invest, they deserve the right to know where their money is being spent. We are also always happy to take donations on hard goods and items that are helpful to build this project! Do you have a two-door cooler that works great but you no longer need? We will take all the help we can get!
6 months of rent paid upfront.
This will allow us to focus on building the market and finding solutions to all the tiny little kinks that will inevitably happen at the beginning of a new business launch
1 New full-time and 1 part-time employee with 3 months of payroll set aside
With payroll set aside for a couple of months, it allows us to get on our feet and not have to worry about paying our employees- which is the most important part of every business. This project will take a team to help execute!
Extra-large walk-in cooler
These tend to run about $18-$20,000 brand new. (Which is quite pricey!) We will def look for a cool bot used cooler panel system but need to ensure that whatever we use works very well- we will be responsible for a lot of product and making sure all of it is taken good care of! The purpose for this cooler is to hold all of the large wholesale orders.
Refrigerated delivery van
These are about $50k brand new. We aim to search out for a used option but there are very few available. We are also looking into purchasing the van and adding in our own refrigeration.
Double and triple door coolers for display
Aesthetic is everything these days and we want some super cute coolers for customers to be able to shop with floral arrangements as well as some buckets of temperature sensitive product like roses and tulips. The market will be open to the public and these coolers will contain the flowers that are available to them for purchase.
Signage and marketing
We will need to add signage to the building so that the market will be visible as well as for marketing this project enough so that it can be successful enough for the farmers.
Cosmetic changes to the building
We aim to rip the carpets out of the building and put in new floors, paint some walls, and make other aesthetic alterations that will make the public super excited to come in and shop
Design stations
Purchase product available for wholesale
We aim to be able to supply biodegradable products for florists to use and need to acquire enough of said products in order to be able to sell them. We also plan on holding some classes in how to use said products so that more florists can switch away from using toxic floral foam and utilize sustainable products instead.
Shelving, storage, buckets, and other materials essential for the market
Espresso machine and bakery display
This definitely isn’t the most important part but will also deeply add to the appeal of the market. We aim to set up a simple espresso machine and have a counter that we can sell baked goods out of for customers to enjoy a special treat while they shop the flowers.
